NHL Player Props & Best Bets Today: MacKinnon Keeps Shootingiv class=”bodyContent col-lg-9 mb-3″>

There are 12 games on tap as we dive into some mouthwatering NHL prop picks and best bets for Tuesday based on the top NHL odds from our best sports betting apps.

A busy night on the ice features many games with playoff implications. We look at a few in depth, including whether Nathan MacKinnon will get at least five shots on goal against the Montreal Canadiens.

Additionally, Mika Zibanejad looks to continue his recent uptick in scoring against the Philadelphia Flyers. Meanwhile, two teams are competing for the final wild-card spot in an Eastern Conference battle, as the sizzling-hot Washington Capitals welcome the Detroit Red Wings to Capital One Arena.

The Flyers visit the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden for their third head-to-head clash of the season. The Rangers prevailed in the previous meetings that were gritty low-scoring battles, winning 3-1 and 2-1. The Flyers are fighting for their playoff lives, while the Rangers' sights are set on winning the Metropolitan Division. Another low-scoring affair should be in the cards.

Here are our top NHL prop picks and best bets for Tuesday (NHL picks based on odds via our
best NHL betting sites; Pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Tuesday's NHL player props

MacKinnon is enjoying the best season of his 11-year career. The Avs' Rolls-Royce averages 4.9 shots per game and has logged at least five shots in seven of the last nine outings. MacKinnon possesses an unparalleled ability to create space and unleash on target, which has led to at least five shots in the previous six home games.

The seven-time All-Star is the clear front-runner in our Hart Trophy odds. MacKinnon is also the primary reason the Avalanche are in a dogged tussle with the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets to win the Central Division.

The Montreal Canadiens allow 32.1 shots per game on the road, the 10th most. They're also the 23rd-ranked team on the road, and MacKinnon should take full advantage. Caesars offers the best odds at -121, slightly better than bet365 and BetMGM's -125.

The -121 odds at Caesars implies a probability of 54.75%. A winning $10 bet pays out $18.26.

Zibanejad isn't exactly ripping the twine at a prolific rate in 2023-24. He's logged 61 points in 70 games, a 0.87 points-per-game average. That's his worst scoring average since 2017-18, when he notched 0.65 points per contest. His comparative lack of scoring production is even more surprising given the Rangers' overall dominance in 2023-24.

However, Zibanejad is heating up at the most crucial time of the season. He's registered six points in his last six games and three in the previous two. The 30-year-old also enjoys playing against the Philadelphia Flyers. He scored two goals in the victory over the Flyers in Philadelphia on Nov. 24. Zibanejad is in an even better position at home, where the Rangers boast the league's second-best points return (.735).

At -125, DraftKings offers the best value. Our other best NHL betting sites offer odds ranging from -130 to -142. The -125 odds come with an implied probability of 55.56%. A $10 winning bet&n bsp;pays an $8.00 profit, via our odds converter.

Tuesday's NHL game picks

Almost miraculously, the Washington Capitals are in a wild-card spot with 12 games remaining, at the expense of the Detroit Red Wings. They're a point ahead of Detroit as both teams battle for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

The Capitals are playing their best hockey of the year, winning seven of the last 10 and 12 of the previous 18. Alexander Ovechkin has been finding his scoring touch, too. The Great 8 has logged eight goals in the previous five games, including a pair of two-goal outings. bet365 offers +115 odds for Ovechkin to score a goal, which is a tasty plus-money wager.

The Red Wings are trending in the opposite direction. They've relinquished their once tight grip on a playoff spot and have lost seven of the last 10 outings. Meanwhile, the Capitals have won three straight and six of the last seven at Capital One Arena. The -115 odds at bet365 represent an implied probability of 53.49%, and a winning $10 bet pays out $18.70.

The Rangers and Flyers have played twice in 2023-24, with both games going Under. The Rangers won 3-1 on Nov. 24 and 2-1 on Feb. 24. The Rangers boast the league's sixth-best defense and allow 2.69 goals per contest and 2.62 at Madison Square Garden. The Flyers' last three games have all gone Under.

Igor Shesterkin has returned to Vezina-like form while allowing more than three goals just once in the last 12 starts. He should get the nod on Tuesday. Even if he doesn't, Jonathan Quick is playing as well, and possibly better than Shesterkin. He's won eight of his last nine starts while posting a .922 save percentage and a 2.36 goals-against average.

Other than DraftKings, which features a price of -125 on U nder 6 goals, our best NHL betting sites offer +100, which implies a 50% probability and pays out $20 on a winning $10 bet.
