The demise of America’s team led to delight for Empire State mobile betting apps, as the New York State Gaming Commission reported a record $67.3 million in sports wagering revenue for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 14.
The figure easily cleared the previous best of $62 million set the week of Oct. 15, as three online operators posted all-time highs in weekly winnings and another three had top-five marks. FanDuel extended its state record for the biggest winning week by any of the nine mobile sportsbooks in New York, collecting $33.4 million. Its previous high was $32.3 million the week ending Sept. 10.
The collective hold was 15.1%, second only to the 15.4% attained the week of Oct. 15. Sportsbooks cleaned up on multiple NFL fronts during wild card weekend, with the biggest upset in their favor being the Dallas Cowboys’ 48-32 loss at home to the seventh-seeded Green Bay Packers.
The Cowboys’ loss likely contributed to a chain reaction of parlays getting blown up, further titling results in the house’s favor. The house also gained a big win with the Cleveland Browns losing 45-14 to the Houston Texans in the first game of the postseason.
