New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-24-2023

The New York Mets (25-23, 17-31 RL, 22-24-2 O/U) do battle with the Chicago Cubs (20-26, 25-21 RL, 24-22 O/U) in the second of a three-game NL series on Wednesday night. The Mets will send Kodai Senga to the mound. The Cubs will reply with Marcus Stroman. The Cubs went 4-3 against the Mets last season.

Kodai Senga will take the mound on Wednesday. Senga was brilliant last time out, conceding one run in 6.1 innings against the Rays, striking out a remarkable 12 batters. The rookie right-hander sometimes has issues with command, issuing 26 walks on the season but overall has been solid, recording a 3.77 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP accompanied by a 4-2 record in 43 innings pitched. This is his first meeting against the Cubs. Senga has accumulated 55 strikeouts.

New York is in the early stages of a road trek after a successful homestand. They won two of three against the Rays and then issued the three-game sweep of the Guardians to climb above the .500 mark. It was a big homestand considering they had not won a series all month prior to defeating the Rays. The Mets are 7-3 in their last ten games.

Jeff McNeil is reaching base, collecting nine hits in his last six games and but only has a .622 OPS on the month. The veteran second baseman was kept in check against the Cubs last season, going 5 for 26 with zero RBIs. McNeil has collected 16 RBIs and a decent .739 OPS on the season.

New York is averaging 4.31 runs on the season, ranking them 19th. The pitching staff has recorded a subpar 4.68 team ERA, placing them 24th.
