Monmouth Hawks at Seton Hall Pirates odds, picks and predictions

The Monmouth Hawks and Seton Hall Pirates open the 2022-23 season with a non-conference tilt in Newark. Tip-off at the Prudential Center is slated for 8 p.m. ET (FS1). Monmouth got off to a great start a year ago, winning 10 of its first 12 games. The Hawks finished 21-13 overall and 11-9 (4th) in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Last season was MU’s last in the MAAC and they now compete in the Colonial Athletic Association.

The Hawks have not played Seton Hall since Nov. 12, 2017, when they lost as a 16.5-point underdog to the Pirates 75-65.

The Pirates were 21-11 last season. They went 11-8 (5th) in the Big East and' earned an NCAA Tournament berth. Seton Hall was solid down the stretch, at point going 9-2 from Feb. 1-March 9. Coach Kevin Willard, who had been at SHU since 2011, was hired by Maryland in the offseason and the Pirates’ new bench boss is Shaheen Holloway, who guided St. Peter’s to an Elite Eight appearance last March.
