Memphis will try to bounce back from a rough showing at Miami when it travels to San Antonio on Friday night. The Grizzlies had their three-game winning streak come to a screeching halt in their 138-119 setback against the Heat on Wednesday. San Antonio is coming off a brutal loss, falling to Dallas in overtime after tying the game in the final second of regulation.
Memphis is hoping to finally put the Ja Morant drama in the rearview mirror within the next week, as the NBA officially made a ruling on an investigation into his conduct. Morant displayed a handgun in an Instagram Live earlier this month, but the league determined that it was brought to him, not owned by him. His suspension is officially eight games, but he’s retroactively serving the games he already missed without pay, so he is eligible to return next week. Memphis quietly won three straight games without him on the court last weekend, beating Golden State and Dallas (twice). The Grizzlies had that winning streak snapped in a 138-119 loss at Miami on Wednesday, though.

They allowed Miami to shoot a season-best 59.8% from the floor and set a season high for points. The Heat had not won a game by double digits since Jan. 18 in New Orleans and had not shot better than 54.5% in a game this year. Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 25 points for Memphis, which fell into a tie with Sacramento for second place in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies also dropped to 3-3 without Morant, and they are continuing to play without veteran center Steven Adams (knee). They rank tenth in the NBA in scoring (115.7) and are facing a San Antonio defense that is dead-last in the league (122.1). Morant leads the team in scoring (27.1) and assists (8.2), but Desmond Bane is averaging 21.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
