Marshall vs. Appalachian State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-2-2023

The Marshall Thundering Herd (18-5, 14-8 ATS, 10-12 O/U) meet with the Appalachian State Mountaineers (13-10, 11-9 ATS, 9-11 O/U) in a Sun Belt clash on Thursday. The Thundering Herd clobbered Georgia State in their previous action. The Mountaineers posted a home victory against Arkansas State in their latest bout. Marshall collected a 79-59 home win against App State in the first meeting.

The Marshall Thundering Herd continues to excel. They have won six out of their last seven games to improve to 7-3 in Sun Belt action on the season. Marshall is flourishing offensively in the recent string of victories. They rebounded from an 86-82 overtime loss to UL Monroe with a dominating 103-65  home win against Georgia State on Saturday to cover the large 13-point spread. The Thundering Herd have covered in only one of their last three clashes.

Taevion Kinsey is dominating the opposition in most performances. The senior guard has reached the 20-point mark in six out of his last eight games and is sporting an average of 21.3 PPG along with 5 RPG. Andrew Taylor is also in a groove, sinking 20 or more points in three of his last four games. The junior guard has accrued an average of 19.2 PPG along with 4.7 APG. Micah Handlogten has several double-doubles this season. The freshman center has scored 21 points in his last two games and has filed an average of 8.6 PPG and 10.6 RPG.

The Thundering Herd are positioned 76th in the country in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings and stands at a solid 5-3 on the road this season including two straight road victories. Marshall has scored at least 80 in six of their last eight games and is scoring an average of 82.8 points on the season, good for 13th. They are conceding an average of 70 points, pegging them 196th in DI.
