Los Angeles saw their two-game win streak snapped as they were clobbered on the road by Buffalo Tuesday night in their previous contest. The Kings entered Wednesday 24-16-10 on the season and stood fourth in the Pacific Division, 20 points behind Vancouver for the top spot. They were five points behind the Oilers for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the Pacific Division and held the top wild card spot in the Western Conference. Los Angeles stands 15th in the league in goals per game as they score an average of 3.10 goals a night this season. The Kings are 6th in goals against by allowing an average of 2.68 goals per contest. Los Angeles is 15th in the league in power play success as they convert 21.1% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Kings are solid in the penalty killing department as they are 1st in the league in penalty killing as they successfully navigated 87.2% of their shorthanded situations.

Against Buffalo, Los Angeles was outplayed horribly on both ends of the ice as they were thrashed. The Kings were outshot 9-5 in the opening period and found themselves down 3-0 after 20 minutes of play, putting them in a hole they never recovered from in the contest. Los Angeles held a 13-8 advantage in shots on goal in the second period but was outscored 2-0 to trail 5-0 at the second intermission. Cam Talbot stopped five of seven shots in relief for the Kings, who held a 33-24 advantage in shots on goal, in the loss. Rittich is expected to get the start in goal again for this contest.
