Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-6-2022

The Los Angeles Angels and the Seattle Mariners continue their weekend series in Seattle on Saturday night. The Angels are languishing far behind in the AL West standings while the Mariners are in the thick of the American League Wildcard race. Due to the trading of Noah Syndergaard and injuries, the Angels have yet to name a starter for Saturday night. The Mariners will turn to young, right-hander George Kirby (2-3, 3.56). First pitch is scheduled for 1010pm EST.

The Los Angeles Angels decided to move on to next year at the trade deadline as the team became sellers as they continue to try and figure out the correct pieces to surround superstars Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout with. The Angels parted with starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard, closer Raisel Iglesias and outfielder Brandon Marsh at the trade deadline, waving the white flag for the 2022 season. Coming into this series with the Mariners, the Angels have lost five of seven games and have slowly slid down the rankings in the AL West after such a positive start to the 2022 season. On Friday, in the first game of their three-game weekend series in Seattle, the Angels coughed up a 3-o lead in the 9th but score a solo run in the top of the 10th that proved to be the difference in a 4-3 win.

The Angels will now be tasked to try to piece together wins without two of their starting pitchers and without their closer for the remainder of the season. Even with Iglesias, the Angels had the 20th ranked bullpen ERA this season, a number that figures to get worse as the team tries to re-order their bullpen. The Angels are also just 20th in quality starts this season so that ranking may drop as well as the team turns to more inexperienced starters. On Saturday night, the Angels will likely turn to a bullpen game as they try and piece together pitchers to give them a decent outing. They have already ruled out two starters for the rest of the season and Michael Sorenson is still not ready to return to the rotation as he begins rehab. The Angels are likely to turn to rookie left-hander Reid Detmers. Detmers has made four quality starts in his 16 starts this season. In July, Detmers was 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA.
