Iowa went 19-14 last season and lost in the first round to Auburn. This team started out 2-0, but there will be some ups and downs with four freshmen as part of their 10-man rotation. The Hawkeyes opened the season with a 110-68 win over North Dakota on Nov. 7 and they took apart Alabama State 98-67 on Nov. 10. In that win over Alabama State, the Hawkeyes were led by Patrick McCaffery (son of head coach Fran), who poured in 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting. The 6-9 senior averaged 9.8 points per game last season in 14 games before taking a leave of absence. Payton Sandfort, the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year last season, contributed 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.

Iowa has to replace Kris Murray (20.2ppg) and Filip Rebraca (14.1ppg) from last season. Sandfort is averaging 19 points and 10.5 rebounds with three assists, while McCaffery adds 16.5 points on 56.3% shooting. One key addition that wi ll help is transfer Ben Krikke (6-9, 220), a transfer from Valparaiso, who averaged 19.4 points and 5.9 rebounds in the Missouri Valley last season. It's early, but Iowa is 4th in the nation in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency and 168th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency.
