Hampton has had a rough first season in the CAA as have all the new programs in the CAA save for North Carolina A&T (7-8 CAA). The Pirates have lost four straight games and five of six after winning three of four games. On Monday, they fell at red-hot Elon 70-68, but did cover the 6.5 points. Marquis Goodwin and Jordan Nesbitt scored 15 points apiece to lead Hampton who shot 47% from the field and committed just nine turnovers. Elon's Max Mackinnon scored 18 points and made two free throws with four seconds left to give the Phoenix the win.

The Pirates are led by Nesbitt, who averages 15 points per game and 6.4 rebounds on 36.2% shooting. Goodwin adds 13 points on 42.2% shooting (41.6% 3pt). They are shooting just 39.6% from the floor to rank last in the CAA and allow 46.7% shooting to rank last. Hampton is shooting a respectable 33.1% from beyond the arc (8th) and allowing teams to shoot 37.4% (12th). A big concern in most games is on the boards, where they rank 13th in rebounding margin (-4.89). The good news is that Hampton takes care of the basketball, ranking 5th in turnover margin (+0.44) and fourth in assist/turnover ratio.
