Georgia Sports Betting Bill Still Alive On Final Day Of Session

A resolution to legalize sports betting in Georgia (Senate Resolution 579) and its enabling legislation (Senate Bill 386) passed through the state's House Higher Education Committee on Thursday morning.

The legislative effort needs to pass through the House Rules Committee – it wasn't discussed during a 9 a.m. committee meeting – before then passing through the House with two-thirds approval. It'll also need Senate concurrence, should it make it that far.

The House Rules Committee could meet again later Thursday to move the bill onto the House floor, but time is running out for the effort to pass. Thursday is the final day of Georgia's 2024 legislative session.

Should the legislature move a bill forward, it also needs voter approval in November.
