DraftKings Inches Toward Maryland Retail Sportsbook Opening

The Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) awarded MSF Sports a retail sports wagering facility license Wednesday. MSF Sports is a subsidiary of the Maryland State Fair and Agriculture Society, and the Maryland State Fairgrounds is expected to be home to a DraftKings sportsbook.'

No official timeline has been given for the go-live date of the retail sports wagering facility. Once ready for launch, it will go through a few days of technical checks with the Maryland Lottery before it’s able to go live.

DraftKings is one of 12 mobile sportsbooks currently taking bets in the state, but the operator doesn't yet have a retail presence in Maryland. There are 13 retail sportsbooks in Maryland, including two FanDuel retail locations.''

Maryland market maturing

The SWARC won't meet again until January of 2024, and the commission doesn't anticipate awarding any additional mobile or retail sports betting licenses through the end of 2023 as Maryland's sports wagering market consolidates.'
