Detroit Red Wings vs. St. Louis Blues Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 3-21-2023

The Detroit Red Wings face the St. Louis Blues with both teams looking to make a late-season push for the playoffs. The Red Wings have a 30-30-9 record and with a 2-7-1 record in March, they have fallen to the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The Blues have a 31-33-5 record and are in sixth place in the Central Division but have back-to-back wins. Both teams are looking to improve on difficult seasons and leap into playoff contention and the upcoming game looks to be a great one.

The Red Wings' season has fallen apart with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.93 goals per game. Dylan Larkin, David Perron, and Dominik Kubalik have scored 59 goals and 86 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only six active skaters have 10 goals or more and opponents can eliminate the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let the Red Wings down this year, allowing 3.25 goals per game. Jake Walman and Moritz Seider have combined for 6.3 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Magnus Hellberg has struggled with a .899 save percentage and a 3.04 goals-against average on 335 shots with -2.0 goals saved above average.
