Delaware vs. Towson Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-16-2023

Delaware (13-14 SU, 11-14-1 ATS) visits SECU Arena to take on rival Towson (17-10 SU, 12-15 ATS) on Thursday night at 7pmET.

The Blue Hens won the first game from Newark 72-59 as a 2.0-point underdog. The Hens sit at 5-9 in the CAA and are hoping to get the sixth seed, though they sit tied for seventh with William & Mary, Stony Brook, Elona and Monmouth. After losing two straight on the road, Towson is 9-5, which places them in fourth place in the CAA.

Jameer Nelson Jr. has had an up-and-down season due to injuries. But on Monday night, he showed he might be back to form, scoring 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting (4-9 3pt) with five rebounds and three assists against Stony Brook in a 71-60 Delaware win. That victory was a key one for the Blue Hens who had lost three straight and five of six games coming into that matchup. The Blue Hens shot 47% from the field and 41% (11-of-27) from long range. Defensively, they held the struggling Seawolves to just 36% shooting.

Nelson Jr. has had an up-and-down season due to injuries. When healthy, he's arguably the second-best player in the CAA after Hofstra's Aaron Estrada. Nelson Jr. is shooting 43.6% from the field and 30.1% from long range, with 19.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game in 23 contests. Forward Jyare Davis adds 16.7 points5.7 rebounds on 48.2% shooting (28.2% 3pt).

Despite having two very good starters, Delaware is struggling this season from the field (43.4%) and is struggling to stop their opponents (43% FG allowed). They are shooting just 32% from three-point range to rank 7th in the CAA and allowing teams to shoot 35.1% (10th). They also rank ninth in rebounding margin (-3.3), which is a concern in this game against Towson (+4.4).
