The Dayton Flyers are the “road” team as they take on the LSU Tigers Thursday afternoon. Dayton was knocked off 71-66 on the road by Northwestern in their previous contest, though they did cover the line as a 5.5-point underdog, Friday night. LSU was upended 68-66 by Nicholls State at home Friday night, losing outright as a 19-point favorite in their previous contest. In the all-time series between the teams, the Flyers own a 2-0 advantage, including an 86-73 triumph in Honolulu as part of the United Airlines Tip-Off Tournament on November 26, 1995 in the most recent matchup.

Dayton battled in their contest on the road against Northwestern but ultimately fell short though they covered the line. The Flyers dropped to 1-1 on the season and look to rebound here as they start the Charleston Classic. Against Northwestern, Dayton fell behind 7-0 out of the gate, rallied to lead by one with 4:53 to play in the first half before giving up an 11-0 run to trail by 10 at intermission. The Flyers regrouped to take a one-point lead with 9:12 remaining in the game before giving up the next six points to trail 56-51. Dayton, despite their best efforts, couldn’t get closer than three the rest of the way. The Flyers shot 53.8% from the field, including 12 of 23 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle 27-21 in the game. DaRon Holmes II led Dayton with 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the loss.

The Flyers come into this contest putting up 64.5 points per g ame, which is 315th in the nation, on the season. Dayton pulls down 29 rebounds per contest and hands out 16.5 assists per game on the year. The Flyers are a stellar 35th in scoring defense as they give up an average of 59 points per game. DaRon Holmes II leads the team with 18 points plus 7.5 rebounds a night this season. Koby Brea (10.5 points) is the only other player averaging in double figures.
