Columbus Blue Jackets vs. N.Y. Rangers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 3-28-2023

The Columbus Blue Jackets face the New York Rangers with both teams on opposite ends of the Eastern Conference to close out the season. The Blue Jackets have a 23-42-7 record and with only three wins in their last 10 games, they have the worst record in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers have a 43-20-10 record and with back-to-back wins, they have the third-best record in the Metropolitan Division. Both teams look to improve in the division and end the season on a high note and the upcoming game should be a good one.

The Blue Jackets are having a rough season with their offense letting them down and scoring only 2.71 goals per game. Johnny Gaudreau, Boone Jenner, and Patrik Laine have scored 65 goals and 97 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only seven active skaters have 10 goals or more and opponents can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has been the Blue Jackets' downfall this season, allowing 3.94 goals per game with 32 goals in the last five games. Erik Gudbranson and Andrew Peeke have combined for 3.2 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. Additionally, goaltender Elvis Merzlikins has struggled with a .876 save percentage and a 4.23 goals-against average on 889 shots with -24.7 goals saved above average.
