The Colorado Avalanche face the Toronto Maple Leafs in a matchup between two of the best teams in the NHL. The Avalanche have a 37-22-6 record and with back-to-back wins, have leaped into third place in the Central Division. The Maple Leafs have a 40-18-8 record and are in second place in the Atlantic Division. Valeri Nichushkin, Evan Rodrigues, and Alex Newhook have combined for 39 goals and 54 assists while defensemen Cale Makar and Devon Toews have added 19 goals and 72 assists from the point to help open up the offense.
The offense has been great but the defense has also stepped up, allowing only 2.80 goals per game with only 11 goals in the last four games. Makar and Toews have combined for 8.9 defensive point shares and 179 blocked shots while Samuel Girard, Josh Manson, and Bowen Byram have combined for 5.7 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Alexandar Georgie v has been great with a .916 save percentage and 2.65 goals-against average on 1501 shots with 16.5 goals saved above average.
