The Charlotte Hornets dropped to 3-4 on the season with their home loss to Sacramento on Monday night. The Hornets have played the entire season banged up thus far but have held their own thus far. Coming into their game with the Kings, the Hornets had been one of the best teams in the NBA at protecting the basketball. They were ranked sixth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio. On Monday, however, they turned the ball over 21 times which turned into 25 points for the Kings. Their defense was also suspect, fouling 31 times in the game which resulted in 28 free throws for the Kings. Sacramento finished 24-of-28 from the line.

“If we turn the ball over 21 times and foul like that, we're not going to win,” Hornets coach Steve Clifford said. “Every drive, we fouled. We kind of gifted them like 10 or 12 points.”

The Hornets have played admirably without their projected starting backcourt of Terry Rozier and LaMelo Ball. Both are still out of action with ankle injuries and it seemed to have caught up with Charlotte against the Kings with over 20 turnovers. The team has now lost three of their last four games with their depleted roster. The team is shooting 47% from the field overall but just 31% from 3pt range. Point guard Dennis Smith Jr. has performed well at point guard but the team loses their ability to run effectively without their usual starters.

Key Injuries: Rozier and Ball are out (ankle) and F Cody Martin (quad) remains out.
