It’s a battle of teams at opposite ends of the standings in the Metropolitan Division on the ice in the City of Brotherly Love. The Carolina Hurricanes are on the road as they travel to face the Philadelphia Flyers as both teams play the second game of a back-to-back situation Saturday afternoon. Carolina was in Toronto to face the Maple Leafs Friday night. The Hurricanes downed the Jets 5-3 at home Tuesday night in their previous contest. Philadelphia was at home against Buffalo Friday night. The Flyers were beaten 5-3 at home by Philadelphia in their most recent game Tuesday night. In the last 10 meetings, the Hurricanes own a 7-3 advantage and have won the last six meetings. That includes a 1-0 home win in the most recent matchup March 9.

Carolina was in action against Toronto Friday night on the road so they close a back-to-back set here. The Hurricanes entered Friday 44-14-8 and held a one-point lead over the Devils for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division standings. Carolina stands 12th in goals per game as they put up 3.30 goals per contest on the year. The Hurricanes are second in goals against by allowing an average of 2.50 goals per night. Carolina stands 16th in power play success as they cash in on 21.2% of their chances with the man advantage on the year. The Hurricanes are 2nd in the league in penalty killing as they have successfully navigated 84% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Winnipeg, Carolina got some timely goal scoring and had an answer each time the Jets made a move to get back in the game to earn the win. The Hurricanes held a 10-6 edge in shots on goal i n the opening period and skated off with a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. Jaccob Slavin opened the scoring with his sixth goal of the season, unassisted, at the 4:37 mark of the period. In the second period, Carolina was outshot 11-7 but outscored Winnipeg 2-1 to take a 3-1 lead at the second intermission. After the Jets tied the game at one, Brady Skjei gave the Hurricanes a 2-1 lead with his 13th goal of the season at the 58-second mark off assists from Martin Necas and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Later in the period, Kotkaniemi made it 3-1 with his 13th goal of the year at 8:15 with the assists going to Skjei and Brett Pesce. In the third period, Carolina held an 8-7 edge in shots on goal with both teams scoring twice, allowing them to secure the victory. After the Jets cut the margin to one goal, Jack Drury tallied his first goal of the year at 9:34 off an assist from Stefan Noesen to make it a 4-2 game. Winnipeg made it a one-goal margin again before Kotkaniem i closed the scoring with his second of the night and 14th of the season, into an empty net, at 19:56 with Seth Jarvis drawing the lone assist. Frederik Andersen made 21 saves for the Hurricanes, who held a 25-24 shot advantage, in the victory. Pyotr Kochetkov is expected to get the start in goal for this contest.
