A pair of teams from the Big 12 lock up on the gridiron as a longtime conference member takes on a newly minted one in the Buckeye State. The Baylor Bears are on the road as they make the trip to face the Cincinnati Bearcats Saturday afternoon. Baylor comes in off a bye week last week: they were clobbered 39-14 by Texas Tech at home, failing to cover as a 2.5-point underdog, in their previous contest back on October 7. Cincinnati was flattened 30-10 at home by Iowa State last Saturday, losing outright as a 3.5-point favorite. This marks the first time that the two programs have met on the gridiron as FBS opponents.

Baylor had a bye last week, giving them two weeks to prepare for this contest. The Bears may have needed the break as they were flattened by Texas Tech at home in their previous game, dropping them to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12 on the year. Against Texas Tech, Baylor gave up a touchdown on the opening drive of the game and never got even again. The Bears trailed 7-0 after one quarter, 17-3 at the half and 24-3 after three quarters: they were unable to get closer than 13 in the final stanza. Baylor was outgained 366-341 in total offense, gave up 19 first downs while recording 17 and was edged 30:04 to 29:56 in time of possession. The Bears did force two turnovers while committing only one but never was seriously in the game.

For the year, Baylor is 33rd in the nation in passing offense as they average 279.5 yards per game through the air. The Bears stand 106th in rushing offense of the 133 FBS teams to take the field this year with an average of 121.5 yards per game. Baylor is 112th in the FBS in scoring offense with 21.7 points per game while the team stands 100th in scoring defense as they allow 33.2 points per contest. Blake Shapen is 64 of 103 passing for 920 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions this season. He adds a pair of scores on the ground. Sawyer Robertson (48 of 97, 647 yards, TD, four INT, 33 rush yards, TD) and RJ Martinez (12 of 23, 110 yards, 22 rush yards) are next up on the depth chart. Richard Reese leads the team on the ground with 49 carries for 229 yards and two scores. Dominic Richardson (55 carries, 218 yards) and Dawson Pendergrass (37 carries, 176 yards, two TD) are also in the mix on the ground game. Monaray Baldwin (404 yards, two TD) and Hal Presley (222 yards) each have 17 receptions to share the team lead in receptions this season. Ketron Jackson Jr. (15 catches, 235 yards), Drake Dabn ey (15 grabs, 202 yards, three TD) and Jonah Burton (eight catches, 108 yards) are all over the century mark in receiving yards. Isaiah Hankins is nine of nine on extra point attempts and 11 of 14 on field goal attempts with a long of 53 this year.
