Friday Betting Recaps
Friday was an entertaining 14-game MLB card (with the Cubs and Cardinals off as they prepare for their weekend series in London), highlighted by the NL Central-leading Reds hosting the NL East-leading Braves.
My nightly betting recaps on Twitter @ViewFromVegas failed to capture the excitement of that game as the Reds entered with an MLB-high 11-game winning streak and the Braves were on an 8-game win streak of their own. The Braves jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. The Reds slowly creeped back into the game and tied it at 5-5 in the bottom of the 4th on a Joey Votto home run. The Braves grabbed the lead right back in the top of the 5th inning, but then the Reds responded with 4 runs in the bottom half, capped off by a 2-run Votto HR, for a 9-7 lead. The Reds added 2 more in the bottom of the 6th for a commanding 11-7 lead as rookie Elly De La Cruz tripled in a run to complete the cycle, but then the Braves came back with 3 in the top of the 8th to cut the lead to 11-10 but couldn’t get any closer as the Reds held on for their 12th straight victory. There were three long losing streaks that ended on the day as the Pirates (+185 in 3-1 win at Marlins, snapping 10-game skid), A's (+255 in 5-4 win at Blue Jays, ending 8-game losing streak) and Rockies (+135 in 7-4 win vs. Angels, ending 8-game kid) all won.
More MLB: Faves went 9-5 with the biggest upsets by those A's (+255 at Blue Jays) and Pirates (+185 at Marlins). Home/road teams split 7-7.
