It’s a battle of Western Conference teams on the ice in the Music City as a pair of teams look to pick up two points in the standings. The Arizona Coyotes make the cross-country trek to face the Nashville Predators Monday night. Arizona comes in off a 4-1 road loss to Vegas Thursday night in their previous contest. Nashville battled and earned a point against Tampa Bay, though they were dropped 3-2 in overtime at home Saturday night. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Predators hold a slim 5-4-1 advantage though the Coyotes picked up a 5-4 win on home ice in the most recent meeting April 29.

Arizona hasn’t played since Thursday night, so they are rested heading into this game as they look to pick up a victory to snap a three-game skid. The Coyotes entered Sunday in the basement of the Central Division, 11 points behind the Stars for the top spot. Arizona is tied for 30th in the league in goals per game as they average 2.56 goals a night this season. The Coyotes are 28th in goals against as they allow an average of 3.63 goals per game on the year. Arizona is 6th in the league in power play success as they convert 27.6% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Coyotes are 7th in the league in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 81.8% of their shorthanded situations.

Against Vegas in their previous contest, Arizona was unable to generate much in the way of offense and that proved to be their undoing on the road. T he Coyotes were outshot 12-7 in the opening period of play but neither team lit the lamp, keeping things scoreless after 20 minutes of action. In the second period, Arizona was outshot 13-9 and outscored 1-0 to trail by that margin at the second intermission. The third period saw the Coyotes outshot by a 14-10 margin and they were outscored 3-1 to end up with the loss. After giving up a pair of goals in the period to trail 3-0, Clayton Keller got the Coyotes on the board with his seventh goal of the season at 11:29 off an assist from J.J. Moser to narrow the margin to two. The Coyotes gave up a goal late to close the scoring and seal their defeat. Karel Vejmelka made 35 saves for Arizona, who was outshot 39-26, in the loss. Vejmelka is slated to get the start between the pipes again in this contest.
