The Washington Capitals arrive in Boston hoping to end a skid that has reached six straight games following their 4-2 loss at Florida on Thursday night. The Capitals had two separate leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before Florida scored the game's final three goals to pull out the win. Future Hall-of-Famer Alex Ovechkin scored his 833rd career goal in the loss and has now scored a goal in three straight games. Anthony Mantha also scored for the Caps. Goalie Darcy Kuemper turned away 37-of-41 shots in the game.

“I liked our first period a lot, and you tip your cap to one of the elite teams in the NHL,” Capitals coach Spencer Carbury said. “The first period, I liked from a competitiveness standpoint, from a work ethic standpoint, our battle level, puck decisions. Each play we had the puck, it was in the spot it needed to be. The problem is that you have to be able to sustain that. It’s difficult for us to maintain that pace.”

The Capitals head into Boston for their first matchup of the year against the Eastern Conference leaders. Last season, the Caps lost two of their three matchups with Boston. The Capitals come in ranked just 30th in the NHL in goals per game. They are 30th in shots on net and 29th in shooting percentage. The Caps are 29th in the NHL in power-play percentage. The Capitals are 15th in goals allowed per game this season. They are 21st in shots allowed and 22nd in save percentage. The Capitals are also 17th on the penalty kill this season.

Key Injuries: LW Sonny Milano and D Trevor van Riemsdyk are questionable.
