It has been a relatively slow start for new Raptors' head coach Darko Rajaković in his first season after replacing long-time coach Nick Nurse in Toronto. The Raptors are 2-4 on the season including losses in three of their last four games heading into this matchup in San Antonio. On Thursday night, the Raptors met up with their old coach and his new team for the second time in just over a week, the Philadelphia 76ers, in Toronto and dropped a 114-99 decision. Forward Scottie Barnes led the Raptors with 24 points in the loss.

“I think it’s pretty cool playing the same team the same week,” Rajaković said. “You can always use the film from the previous game to teach and show the stuff that we need to do better. I think it’s a great opportunity for a team like ours to grow.”

The Raptors are not only adjusting to a new coac h but also the loss of point guard Fred VanVleet. Surprisingly, the Raptors have performed slightly better offensively than last season. The team is 23rd in points per game after finishing 27th last season. The Raptors are also ranked 19th in shooting percentage compared with 27th last season. Marginal improvements offensively have given way to significant improvements thus far defensively. The Raptors are third in the NBA in opponent's shooting percentage thus far, compared with 28th last year and they are fourth in opponent's 3-point field goal percentage compared with 27th last season. Unfortunatetly, the team has been much sloppier with the basketball than they were with VanVleet at the helm in 2022-23. The Raptors were 1st in turnovers last year but are 25th to start this season.

Key Injuries: F Otto Porter Jr. (conditioning), F Precious Achiuwa (groin) and C Christian Koloko (illness) are questionable.
