South Carolina lost for the ninth time in 10 games as they were knocked off by Vanderbilt at home in their previous game. The Gamecocks fell to 9-17 overall and they stand tied for 12th in the conference with a 2-11 record this season. Against Vanderbilt, South Carolina scored the opening bucket but gave up the next 15 points to put themselves in a hole they wouldn’t recover from. The Gamecocks trailed 38-18 at the half and never got closer than nine the rest of the way, with that coming in the final minute. South Carolina shot 36.2% from the field, including seven of 27 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle 48-34. Meechie Johnson led the Gamecocks with 19 points in the loss.

The Gamecocks put up an average of 64.1 points per game this season, leaving them 340th in the nation in scoring offense. South Carolina collects 34.5 boards a night (212th) while dishing out 10.8 assists per contest. The Gamecocks are slightly below average on the defensive end, ranking 270th in the country by allowing 72.8 points a night. Hayden Brown is third on the team this season in scoring as he puts up 11.2 points plus five boards a game. Gregory Jackson II (15.2 points, six rebounds), Jacobi Wright and Chico Carter Jr. (9.8 points) are good secondary scoring options. Meechie Johnson (12.5 points, 3.9 boards, 3.4 assists), Josh Gray, Daniel Hankins-Sanford and Zachary Davis each are looked at to contribute on both ends of the floor. South Carolina shoots 39.8% from the field in the contest. The Gamecocks knock down 7.8 triples per game while shooting 32.3% from beyond the arc as a team. South Carolina is sinking just 64.5% of their attempts at the line so there is room for improvement there.
