A pair of American League teams open up a weekend series on the diamond down in Charm City. The Seattle Mariners are on the road as they kick off a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles Friday night. Seattle finished a three-game road series on the road in the Bronx against the Yankees Thursday night hoping to avoid a sweep. The Mariners fell 4-2 in the middle game of the series Wednesday night. Baltimore ended up with a split of their short two-game series with the Rays, falling 7-2 in the finale of the series Wednesday afternoon. In the season series last year, the Mariners won four of the six matchups, including taking two of three at home June 27-29, 2022 in the most recent set.

Seattle’s bats sputtered again Wednesday night, sending them to a second straight loss and their fourth in the last six games. The Mariners entered Thursday 35-37 and stood in fourth place in the AL West, 10 games behind the Rangers for the top spot in the division. On Wednesday, Seattle finished with only four hits with no player having more than one in the contest. Dylan Moore hit his first homer of the season in a losing effort for the Mariners, while Jarred Kelenic knocked in the other run in the game. Luis Castillo (4-6) took the loss on the mound as he allowed three runs on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts over five innings of work.

Logan Gilbert is on the mound as he makes his 15th start of the season for the Mariners in this contest. He comes in 4-4 with a 4.31 ERA, a 1.071 WHIP, 16 walks and 84 strikeouts over 79.1 innings of work on the year. Gilbert didn&#x 2019;t factor in the decision in his last start, which came Saturday at home against the White Sox. He threw 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in a game the Mariners lost 4-3 in 11 innings. In his last three starts, Gilbert is 1-1 with a 5.28 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP, five walks and 11 strikeouts over 15.1 innings of work. Gilbert, in his 71st career major league start, pitches against the Orioles for the first time here. As a result, this marks his first career outing at Oriole Park at Camden Yards as well.
