San Francisco had their win streak snapped in their last game and play host to a struggling Santa Cara team that beat them on the road in late December.
San Francisco had won three in a row before losing to a ranked St. Mary’s team in their last game. They are 4-6 in West Coast Conference play and 15-10 overall.
Santa Clara has dropped their last three games with two of them coming facing the top 25 teams of St. Mary’s and Gonzaga. With their last loss they fell under .500 in conference play (4-5) and they are 16-8 overall. The Broncos beat the Dons at home 79-67 in late December while losing to them twice last season.
While giving up an average of 72 ppg on the season Santa Clara’s defense has slipped as of late giving up an average of 86.7 ppg in their three-game skid. In their last game they were on the road and lost to 12th ranked Gonzaga 88-70 where they were outscored by 19 points in the first half. The Broncos did not play well on either side of the floor only shooting 40% while they allowed the Bulldogs to shoot 59.3% from the field. Carlos Stewart led the way in the loss with 22 points on 9-15 shooting while the other four starters only combined to go 9-30 from the floor. Santa Clara failed to cover the spread as a 13-point underdog and they have failed to cover in their last three games.
Brandin Podziemski (19 ppg 8.2 rpg) is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Broncos and only had 14 points on bad shooting in the last game while going for a season high 38 points in the previou s game. Stewart (15 ppg) has scored at least 17 points in four of the last five games. Keshawn Justice (13.6 ppg) has been around his season average in the last few games but is only shooting 37.7% from the floor and he has failed to shoot over 34% in the last two games.
