Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-2-2023

Philadelphia Phillies (15-14) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (16-13)

The MLB betting action goes on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, with the Philadelphia Phillies squaring off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the middle contest of a three-game series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.

Monday’s opener has been excluded from the analysis. The Dodgers are listed as -175 moneyline favorites for Tuesday’s clash, while the totals sit at 8.5 runs.

After a slow start to the season, the Philadelphia Phillies are back on the right track. The reigning MLB vice-champions have won four straight sets, including a victory over the Houston Astros, who beat them in the 2022 World Series. The Phillies took two out of three games at Minute Maid Park in Houston, stopping a four-game winning streak with a 4-3 loss in Sunday’s closer.

Last week, the Phillies went 4-2 while scoring 22 runs on a .252/.290/.406 slash line. Now, they are tallying 4.34 runs per game (18th in the majors) on a strong .272/.327/.444 triple-slash. However, the Phillies own the fifth-worst OPS with runners in scoring position (.653).

Matt Strahm will toe the rubber Tuesday in LA, and the 31-year-old left-hander is 2-2 with a sparkling 2.31 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and 32/7 K/BB ratio in five starts and one relief appearance (23.1 innings pitched) this season. He snapped a two-game losing streak last Thursday, throwing 5.1 scoreless frames in a 1-0 home win against the Seattle Mariners. Strahm is in the 71st percentile in expected slugging percentage, but he also ranks in the 24th percentile in hard-hit percentage and the 28th percentile in barrel percentage.
