The Orioles welcome the lowest scoring team in the majors. The Guardians have scored a paltry 178 runs this season, which works out to an average of 3.4 runs per game.
Cleveland has scored fewer runs than the Oakland Athletics, a team that has won just 10 games and is currently on pace to be the worst outfit in MLB history.
The pitching matchup isn't the best, as Wells has been rocked in recent outings. He gave up five earned runs in five innings work against the New York Yankees on Wednesday and three earned runs to the Los Angeles Angels the week prior.
Nonetheless, we're comforted by the Guardians' recent form. They've surpassed this run total just four times in their last 12 games.
Despite ranking at or near the bottom in most offensive categories, Guardians manager Terry Francona is still reluctant to make lineup changes.
“We need to do better. If yelling and screaming at them made them do better, I'd do it. That's not going to make somebody hit,” Francona said prior to Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, according to The Athletic's Zach Meisel. “If changing the lineup, if I felt that it would make somebody hit, I'd do it.”
He was then asked when it would be appropriate to make a ch ange to the sputtering lineup.
“When there's a reason to change it. When I think it better suits us,” Francona said.
It ain't getting any better in Cleveland any time soon.
