Full History of CONCACAF Gold Cup Champions (Past Winners, Most Titles and More)

The 17th CONCACAF Gold Cup soccer tournament is being held in 2023, which will be the latest chapter in a rich tournament history dating back over 30 years to its inaugural entry in 1991.

With a relatively limited pool of countries playing in the tournament (and even fewer true soccer powerhouses among them), the list of teams to have won the Gold Cup is a short one. There's a bit of variety in the runner-up spot, but to date only three different countries have actually won the Gold Cup. Here's a look at the all-time leaderboard, followed by a year-by-year breakdown of champions and runner-ups.

Mexico has won a tournament-leading eight Gold Cups. They earned their first win in 1993 (the second-ever Gold Cup) and most recently won in 2019. Their streak of three consecutive wins (1993, 1996 and 1998) is also the longest in Gold Cup history.

The United States has won the Gold Cup seven times, trailing only Mexico (eight) for the most in tournament history. Their wins included the first-ever Gold Cup in 1991 and the most recent in 2021. They have won back-to-back championships once (in 2005 and 2007).

Canada has one Gold Cup championship win, making them the only nation other than Mexico (eight) and the United States (seven) to win the tournament. That win came in 2000, when they went 2-1-0 in the Group Stage before defeating Mexico in the quarterfinals, Trinidad and Tobago in the semifinals and Colombia in the championships.
