FIU is coming off a 41-16 loss at home to Jacksonville State (transition FBS team) as a 9-point underdog on Oct. 25. The good news is that the Panthers are coming off a bye. The bad news is that a win over Sam Houston State (another new FBS team) on Oct. 18 was their only win in October. They come into this game having lost four of their last five games. Other than the Sam Houston win, the Panthers also beat former conference foe North Texas 46-39 on Sept. 9, UConn (24-17) on the road and FCS member Maine (14-12) at home on Sept. 2. It's not a pretty slate but if they can win two games against MTSU, Arkansas on the road and Western Kentucky at home, they can go bowling.

In their loss to the Gamecock in their last game on Oct. 25, FIU amassed just 249 yards and 31 rushing yards. They committed nine penalties for 92 yards and were down 21-0 to start the game in the first quarter. They never could overcome as two quarterbacks completed a combined 14 of 28 for 218 yards, but were sacked five times. Keyone Jenkins (2 for 8) got the start and junior Grayson James replaced him in the third quarter. James wound up completing 12 of 20 for 200 yards and a TD.

Jenkins is completing 58.5% of his passes for 1,674 yards with six passing TDs, five rushing TDs, and seven picks. James has thrown just 37 passes all year and has completed 19 for 218 yards. Shomari Lawrence leads the team with 491 rushing yards and has four TDs (4.9ypc).

Overall, the defense has struggled, especially against the pass as they are allowing 195.7 yards per game (125th) and 237.6 passing yards (85th). On offense, they are averaging just 324 yards (110th) overall and just 100.9 rushing yards per game (121st).
