Eastern Michigan took to the sloppy conditions at 'The Factory' last weekend like a an Eagle to the skies and rolled to a 28-14 win over Kent State in front of their home crowd at Rynarson Stadium. The win improves the Eagles to 4-3 overall and now 2-1 in MAC play.

“We do feel good about accomplishing the goal of winning the game,” EMU head coach Chris Creighton said. “Bigger picture we feel as though we can be better than that.”

Quarterback Austin Smith was just 9-of-25 for 116 yards but threw a touchdown without any interceptions. On the ground, Smith ran it seven times for 29 yards. The Eagles ground attack was led by Samson Evans who had 47 yards to pass the 2,000 yard mark for his career. In all, EMU had just 218 yards of total offense in the game and 14 first downs. The Eagles turned the ball over once and had a special teams' score with Kenric Nowli ng's 44-yard kickoff return TD.

The defense was once again opportunistic for EMU. They forced four fumbles in the game which allowed the Eagles to win the turnover battle for the 43rd time in their last 46 games. Chase Kline and Joe Sparacio each had 13 tackles to lead the defense. The defense also had five tackles for loss in the game.

EMU comes into this game with one of the poorest overall offenses in the country. The Eagles rank 131st in the country in total offense thus far. They are 107th in rushing and a dismal 126th through the air. The Eagles are surprisingly efficient when they get into the red zone, however, ranking 54th in the country in red zone offense. On the defensive side of the ball, the Eagles have faired a bit better. EMU ranks 63rd in total defense. EMU is just 121st in the nation against the run but 16th in the country against the pass. The Eagles are an impressive 13th in stopping teams on th ird down and 17th in red zone defense. They are 89th in sacks.

The Eagles, as they showed against Kent State, are opportunistic on defense. They rank 9th in the nation in turnover differential. They are also a solid 37th in penalties per game.
