The Clemson Tigers will travel east to Columbia and take on the South Carolina Gamecocks this Thursday from the Colonial Life Arena on ESPN+. South Carolina and Clemson have competed in one of college basketballs oldest rivalries, even meeting multiple times as conference rivals way back in the day. South Carolina leads the all-time series 91-80, but Clemson has won four of the last five meetings.
Clemson opened the season with a win over in-state foe Citadel Monday night. The Tigers took a 14-point lead into halftime, but failed to cover after letting their foot off the gas. Brad Bronwell’s team shot 46% from the field and only went 7/22 from deep, so there’s some more work to be done heading into this one.
Chase Hunter looks set to have a breakout junior season after his performance versus Citadel. The 6’3 guard went off for a career-high 23 points, and went ¾ from deep. Hunter Tyson was dominant up front in the opener, double-doubling with 19 points and 13 boards. Sophomore forward Ian Schieffelin also double-doubled with 20 points and 14 rebounds in 31 minutes, so the Tigers may have something special in the frontcourt this season.
