Charlotte Hornets vs. Detroit Pistons Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 3-9-2023

Charlotte will try to beat Detroit for the second time in two weeks when the Eastern Conference foes square off on Thursday night. The Hornets lost three straight games after beating Detroit on Feb. 27, but they bounced back with a 112-105 win over New York on Tuesday. Detroit is riding a nine-game losing streak and is getting set for the third game of a five-game homestand.

Charlotte has been through multiple lengthy losing skids this season, including a seven-game skid from the end of January to the middle of February. The Hornets had their best stretch of the season in the middle of February, winning five straight games in a streak that was capped off with a 117-106 win against Detroit on Feb. 27. They lost their three games after that by double digits, falling to Phoenix, Orlando and Brooklyn. Charlotte responded with a 112-105 win at New York on Tuesday, despite being a 10-point underdog in that contest. The Hornets shot 49.4% from the floor and knocked down 12 3-pointers in that game.

They are wrapping up a three-game road trip on Thursday night before hosting their next five games. Kelly Oubre Jr. poured in 27 points for Charlotte in Tuesday’s win, as the Hornets outscored the Knicks 62-39 in the second half. Veteran guard Terry Rozier added 25 points and seven assists, while Gordon Hayward finished with 23 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Charlotte had 27 assists and just 12 turnovers in that game. The Hornets are playing without star point guard LaMelo Ball for the remainder of the season after he injured his ankle against Detroit last month. Charlotte ranks No. 26 in the NBA in scoring (111.8) and is facing a Detroit defense that is No. 29, allowing 119.0 points per game.
