Cal Poly vs. Cal State Northridge Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-8-2024

A pair of programs from the Golden State that call the Big West Conference home take the floor in search of a victory. The Cal Poly Mustangs are on the road as they make the trip to take on the CSU Northridge Matadors Thursday night. Cal Poly comes in off a 59-52 home loss to UC Davis in their previous game Saturday, though they did cover the line as a 9.5-point underdog. CSU Northridge took down UC Riverside 76-70 at home Saturday in their previous game, covering the line as a one-point favorite. In the all-time series between the programs, the Matadors own a 29-23 advantage and have won the last two meetings. That includes an 83-73 victory on the road in the first matchup this season on December 28, 2023.

Cal Poly suffered their 11th straight loss as they were knocked off at home by UC Davis in their previous contest. The Mustangs fell to 4-19 on the season overall and stand in the basement of the Big West with a 0-11 mark in conference play. Against UC Davis, Cal Poly was in a tight game for the first half, leading by two and trailing by as many as four before going to the half down a bucket. The Mustangs went cold in the second half, giving up a 21-5 run to trail 46-28 with 9:02 remaining, and couldn’t get closer than four down the stretch. Cal Poly shot 34% from the field, including six of 19 from three-point range, and turned the ball over 15 times in the contest. Kobe Sanders led the Mustangs with 14 points in the loss.

For the season, the Mustangs have been below average on the offensive end of the floor this season, averaging 62.6 points per game, which puts them 355th in the nation in scoring offense. Cal Poly grabs 32.4 rebounds per night and hands out an average of 9.7 assists per contest. The Mustangs are 198th in scoring defense as they give up an average of 72.1 points per game. Kobe Sanders leads the team and is one of two players averaging in double figures with 18.7 points per game on the year. Jarred Hyder (10.3 points) and Quentin Jones are secondary scoring options. Tuukka Jaakkola, Joel Armotrading, Paul Bizimana, Aidan Prukop, Aaron Price Jr., Cam Malray, Justin Page, Isaac Spears and Hayden Jory all log solid minutes for the Mustangs this season. Cal Poly shoots 40% from the field as a team this season. The Mustangs connect on 5.5 three-pointers a night while shooting 31.4% from beyond the arc.
