The first half of the season has been a disaster for Michigan, a proud program that won one NCAA title and eight Final Fours. The Wolverines come into College Park, Md., having lost four straight games to Florida, McNeese State, Minnesota and Penn State in their last game. They played the Penn State game at The Palestra in Philadelphia and Juwan Howard decided to make associate head coach Phil Martelli the head coach in his hometown. Michigan shot 50% from the field, but turned the ball over 18 times. That was the difference because they held the Nittany Lions to just 42% shooting from the field. and 30% (7-of-23) from long distance.

Michigan is ranked 69th according to KenPom and their Adjusted Defensive Efficiency (104.6) is at 186th. They also rank 322nd in turnover ratio at -2.7, which has been a huge problem. Olivier Nkamhoua (6-9, 235) adds 16.8 points per game and 7.7 rebounds on 55.6% shooting from the field and 40% from long distance.
