Wichita State vs. Tulsa Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-5-2023

Wichita State will be seeking its third straight conference road victory when it travels to Tulsa on Sunday afternoon. The Shockers have picked up road wins at SMU and East Carolina in their last two games, but their most recent outing was a 70-61 loss to No. 3 Houston on Thursday. Tulsa is riding a three-game losing streak and has lost 10 of its last 11 games.

Wichita State got off to a rough start to the season, going 7-8 (0-3) through its first 15 games. The Shockers were at home for two of those conference losses, but they bounced back with a pair of wins over South Florida and Tulsa. Their three losses since then have come against Memphis, Tulane and most recently No. 3 Houston. They have been solid on the road though, notching wins at SMU and East Carolina in their most recent road trips. Wichita State has won six of the last seven meetings between these teams, including the 73-69 victory on Jan. 14.

The Shockers will be hoping that their shooting numbers improve on Sunday afternoon, as that has been a major weakness of theirs this season. They are No. 344 nationally in 3-point percentage, knocking down just 29.3% of their attempts, and they are No. 291 in overall effective field goal percentage. Wichita State’s strength offensively has been its low turnover rate, which is unlikely to be tested by a Tulsa defense that is outside the top 200 in field goal percentage, turnover rate and rebounding. Junior guard Jaykwon Walton leads Wichita State with 13.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while senior guard Craig Porter Jr. is adding 12.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists.
