North Texas Mean Green (3-3) vs. Tulane Green Wave (5-1)

Week 8 of the 2023 CFB season brings a ton of intriguing matchups on Saturday, October 21, including the American Athletic Conference battle at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana, so here’s the best North Texas vs. Tulane betting pick.

The Mean Green and Green Wave lock horns for the first time since 2013 when Tulane outlasted North Texas 24-21 as a 3-point home fave. Tulane is a huge 20.5-point home favorite this time around, while the totals are listed at 63.0 points.

The North Texas Mean Green (3-3; 3-3 ATS; 1-1 Conf.) are coming off an impressive 45-14 home victory over Temple in Week 7. Playing as 7.5-point home favorites, the Mean Green outgained the Owls 527-347 in total yards and picked off Quincy Patterson three times. Temple rushed 50 times for 242 yards but failed to score in the second half when the Owls had to lean on Patterson’s arm.

North Texas racked up 220 rushing yards on 37 carries against Temple. Running backs Oscar Adaway III and Isaiah Johnson combined for 173 rushing yards and a couple of touchdowns. Junior quarterback Chandler Rogers completed 25 of his 39 passing attempts for 307 yards and four touchdowns, while sophomore wideout Ja’Mori Maclin had six catches for 163 yards and two scores.

“We can’t read our press clippings after this and think we’re better than what we are,” North Texas head coach Eric Morris said. “We still know that we are in a growth phase and will continue to be in a growth phase until I declare it not.”

Chandler Rogers has done a good job thus far, throwing for 1,419 yards, 12 touchdowns, and just one interception. He’s also scored three times on his own while running backs Ayo Adeyi and Oscar Adaway III have combined for 776 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns. Ja’Mori Maclin has 25 receptions for 587 yards and eight touchdowns on his season tally, and senior WR Roderic Burns added 27 catches for 275 yards and a TD.

The Mean Green are sco ring 35.7 points per game (23rd in the nation) on 282.2 passing yards (30th) and 195.3 rushing yards (21st). They are yielding 35.5 points in return (122nd) on 204.5 passing yards (35th) and 256.7 rushing yards (133rd).
