New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-9-2023

The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles continue their weekend series at Camden Yards on Sunday. The Yankees are fresh off an AL East title in 2022 but a disappointing loss in the ALCS to the eventual World Series champion Astros. Meanwhile, the Orioles hope to continue to show progress after a 30+ win increase from 2021 to 2022. The pitching matchup on Sunday pits Yankees' lefty Nestor Cortes (1-0, 1.80) taking on Orioles' righty Tyler Wells (0-0, 0.00). The first pitch in the series finale is scheduled for 1:35 PM EST.

The Yankees have played decently to start the season despite coming out of Spring Training without three of their projected starters, Carlos Rodon, Frankie Montas and Luis Severino. The Yankees' offense has done its part, averaging five runs per game heading into Saturday night's game. Gleybor Torres has been the hottest player out of the gates, leading the team in batting average and RBI. On Saturday night, rookie starting pitcher Jhony Brito gave the Yankees five innings of one-run ball in a 4-1 win, the first win of his career. Giancarlo Stanton homered in the Yankees' fifth win of the season.

Crafty lefty Cortes will take the hill on Sunday afternoon. Cortes is making his second start of the season after picking up a win over Philadelphia in his first start. Cortes went five innings while allowing seven hits and one run against the Phils. He struck out three and didn't walk a batter. Last season on the road, Cortes was 6-3 in 13 starts with an ERA of 3.06. He allowed just 59 hits in 70.2 innings pitched. Cortes was outstanding against the Orioles last year. He went 2-0 in three starts and didn't allow a run in 18.1 innings pitched while allowing ten hits.

Key Injuries: RP Jonathan Loaisiga is out along with the three starting pitchers.
