New York Mets vs. Kansas City Royals Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-1-2023

The New York Mets face the Kansas City Royals with both teams having rough seasons. The Mets have a 50-55 record and have already started to tear down the roster ahead of the trade deadline. The Royals have a 32-75 record which is second-worst in the American League but they have won three games in a row. For the upcoming game, the Mets will turn to Jose Quintana as their starting pitcher while the Royals will turn to Zack Greinke who has allowed 12 runs in his last three starts.

The Mets are having a season to forget and have traded away multiple players to signal that they won't contend this year. Jose Quintana will start the upcoming game and he has only started two games this season. The hope is he can build off of two strong starts as the's allowed only five runs in 11 innings pitched while tossing eight strikeouts.

Quintana hopes to step up and help out a lineup that has been awful this year, scoring only 4.44 runs per game. Pete Alonso is slashing .218/.314/.506 with 30 home runs and 181 total bases while Brandon Nimmo is slashing 256/.353/.431 with 15 home runs and 172 total bases but the rest of the lineup has struggled. Only five active batters have an OPS+ over 100 and opposing pitchers can eliminate the top-heavy lineup as a result.
