Mount St. Mary's at Iona Prediction – Basketball Picks 2/3/23

The Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers will head up to New York to meet the Iona Gaels in Metro League play from the Hynes Center on ESPN3.

Mount St. Mary’s dropped to 7-15 after losing to St. Peter’s at home. The Mountaineers blew a double digit halftime lead and let the Peacocks leave with an eleven-point win. MSM scores 62.0 points per game, while allowing 64.6 ppg, and shooting 41.3% from the field.

Mount St. Mary’s inaugural season in the MAAC has been rough, and things likely won’t improve against a well-coached Iona team. The Mountaineers are 3-8 in Metro League play, while posting an identical 3-8 on the road. Senior guard Jalen Benjamin leads the team in scoring again this season at 14.5 ppg after going for a game-high 21 points against St. Peter’s. Third-year guard Dakota Leffew lines up alongside him, and after scoring 17 points or more in three of the last five games, he’s up to a career-best 13.7 ppg. Binghamton transfer George Tinsley leads MSM in rebounding (6.1), while scoring 7.4 ppg.
