The Loyola Ramblers were consistently one of the better teams in the Missouri Valley Conference since their arrival in 2013. This season, Loyola has struggled in its inaugural season in the Atlantic Ten with just four league wins, finishing in last place. Loyola matched up with St. Joseph's twice this season, losing both times. The Ramblers were blown out by 30 points on the road at St. Joe's in the first meeting. Loyola shot just 39% from the floor and committed 19 turnovers. In the second matchup, Loyola fell 83-71 at home to the Hawks. The Ramblers shot the ball better at 48% but struggled with turnovers again, committing 16. Braden Norris averaged 14 points in the two games to lead the Ramblers.

Loyola will need to protect the basketball much better in this third matchup with the Hawks if they want to pull off the upset. The Ramblers finished last in the conference in turnovers per game. They also finished 13th in scoring offense in the A-10 this season. Loyola did finish fourth in field goal percentage and a respectable seventh in 3pt offense. Defensively, Loyola is 12th in scoring defense in the conference. The Ramblers are just 14th in opponent's field goal percentage and 11th in 3pt defense. Loyola is in last place in the conference in total rebounding.
