Kansas City Royals vs. Chicago White Sox Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-1-2022

Kansas City will wrap up its three-game series in Chicago against the White Sox on Thursday afternoon. The Royals got off to a nice start in the series with a 9-7 win on Tuesday, putting another dent in Chicago’s slim playoff hopes. This story was published prior to Wednesday night’s game.

Kansas City has been near the bottom of the majors throughout the season, but that has not stopped the Royals from being competitive of late. They had won four of their last seven games heading into Wednesday night’s tilt, including the 9-7 victory on Tuesday. Kansas City also had one of its best offensive showings of the season on Sunday, blowing out San Diego in a 15-7 final. The Royals are on a six-game road trip that is going to conclude with three games in Detroit this weekend. They have the third-worst record in the American League and have been virtually eliminated from playoff contention.

The Royals have been a decent offensive team this season, ranked No. 14 in the majors in batting average (.244). Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. leads the way with 116 hits, including 18 home runs. Veteran catcher Salvador Perez has a team-high 19 homers and has driven in 63 runs. They are facing a Chicago pitching staff that is No. 20 with an ERA of 4.06. Kansas City has not announced its starter for this game, but rookie left-hander Daniel Lynch is a likely option. He allowed four runs on nine hits while striking out six and walking one across five innings against the Padres last Saturday. Lynch has just one quality start this season, which came in late April against the White Sox. He brings a 4.70 ERA into this outing, although he finished August with a 3.94 ERA.
