Cannonier vs Strickland Prediction

Cannonier enters this fight hungrier than ever, having lost suffered a unanimous decision loss to Israel Adesanya back in July for the UFC Middleweight Championship. The Dallas, TX native had gone 5-1 in his previous six fights before that loss, making it interesting to see if he can bounce back this weekend.

Cannonier winning won't be easy, though. Strickland was riding a six-fight win streak before Alex Pereira knocked him out at UFC 276. Strickland has never lost back-to-back outi ngs in his 14-year career, so chances are he'll look to start this clash off with a bang.

In a fight that could go either way, I'm going with Strickland winning this one. The 31-year-old is seven years younger than his opponent and averages over two more significant strikes per minute (5.54) than Cannonier is used to absorbing (3.50). Strickland also has superior mat skills and could find multiple ways to break his opponent down.

Furthermore, unlike Strickland, Cannonier has also lost two straight fights before and is just 5-4 in his last seven outings. Riding the hotter hand, I like Strickland's chances of getting back on track.

Cannonier vs Strickland Best Bet

While I expect Strickland to win this one, I still predict that this fight to come down to the judges' decision. The moneyline odds are extremely close, highlighting how evenly matched the two fighters are. Furthermore, three of Cannonier's last four fights have gone the distance, whereas four of Strickland's last six outings have been decided by points.

Fortunately for him, Strickland is 10-2 when his fights head to the judges' table. On the other hand, Cannonier isn't as lucky, going 4-5 in that scenario. Keeping that in mind, it's increasingly clear that Strickland by decision (+230) is the way to go.
