Illinois State vs. Indiana State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-18-2023

For the second time this season, the  Indiana State Sycamores (19-9, 17-10-0 ATS, 12-5 MVC) will try to beat the Illinois State Redbirds (10-18, 10-17-1 ATS, 5-12 MVC). They successfully took them down in January, securing a 76-67 victory on the road. Illinois State won the two games before that, including in last year's conference tournament. Indiana State's opportunity for a season sweep will occur at their home in the Hulman Center. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. EST.

It has been four losses in a row for Illinois State, a funk the Redbirds know all too well this season. Most recently was a 76-75 loss at home to Murray State, with Illinois State clawing back but falling short at the buzzer. The Redbirds shot 53.8%, led by Seneca Knight who shot 7/11 for a team-high 22 points.

Illinois State is 269th in the nation according to KenPom. On the road, they've gone 3-7 this season. Their adjusted tempo is 311th in the country.

The Redbirds only put up 67.1 points per game because of their tempo. They shoot 43.7% from the floor, ninth among Missouri Valley Conference schools. On threes, they hit 34.0% of their attempts, sixth in the conference. Illinois State hit 79.7% of their free throws, the best clip out of the MVC schools.

On the defensive end, they allow 70.2 points a night, seventh in the MVC. Opponents shoot 45.2% against Illinois S tate, 11th of the 12 teams in the conference. Foes hit 34.0% of their three-pointers against them.
