Houston had their chances early but couldn’t capitalize enough as the Rays broke through to snap the Astros’ four-game win streak. The Astros entered Tuesday second in the AL West with a 12-11 record, 2.5 games behind the Rangers for the top spot in the division race. On Monday night, Houston finished with six hits with Alex Bregman (run, RBI) the lone player with two in the game. Bregman (his third) and Jeremy Pena (his fourth) each homered in the contest in a losing effort for the Astros. Jose Urquidy (1-2) took the loss as he allowed six runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts over 2.2 innings of work.

Hunter Brown is on the bump for the Astros as he makes his fifth start of the season in this contest. He comes in 2-0 with a 3.09 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, eight walks and 24 strikeouts over 23.1 innings of work this season. Brown didn’t factor in the decision in his las t start, which came Friday on the road against the Astros. He threw 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in a game the Astros rallied to win by a 6-4 margin. In his last three starts, Brown is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, five walks and 19 strikeouts over 18.2 innings of work. Brown makes his third career appearance and first start against the Rays in this contest. He has no record with a 0.00 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, one walk and five strikeouts over four innings of work against them. Brown didn’t factor in the decision in his lone career appearance at Tropicana Field, which came in relief on September 19, 2022.
