Duke's Mayo Bowl Preview: North Carolina vs. West Virginia
Everyone’s favorite gross celebration is upon us with the Mayo Bowl, featuring the North Carolina Tar Heels and the West Virginia Mountaineers. If you read my write-up of the Military Bowl between VT and Tulane, you can pretty much rinse and repeat here. This is a matchup of two teams that had completely different expected outcomes heading into the season. WVU, whom I bet the season win total under on (loser), saved Neal Brown’s job with an unexpectedly spirited effort this season after looking like Brown was on the way out after last season.
The Tar Heels, on the other hand, had ACC championship aspirations and Heisman hope for its star QB Drake Maye (more on him in a minute), but fell short of those goals in what was a disappointing season in Chapel Hill relative to preseason hype. WVU is currently a 6.5-point favorite in this game with an over/under set at 54.5.
