The Columbia Lions and Providence Friars face off on Saturday in a college basketball showdown at the Dunkin Donuts Center. When these two teams faced off in 2006 it was Providence that secured the 81-56 victory.
Columbia comes into this game with a 2-5 record and they have gone 2-4 against the spread. In the last game against Binghamton, they were competitive but ended up losing by two points. The defense gave 80 points. Forward Blair Thompson finished with 22 points and seven rebounds. Columbia is averaging 71 points while their defense is giving up 76.4 points per game. Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa has been the top player and is averaging 13.9 points while shooting 38.7 percent from behind the three-point line.
On the other side of this matchup is Providence who sits with a 4-2 record and they have gone 2-4 against the spread. In the last game against Merrimack, the defense was elite giving up only 57 points and that led to the 14 point defeat. Providence is averaging 77.2 points while their defense is giving up 68.8 points per game. Providence is averaging only 58.2 shots per game which is 207th in college basketball. Forward Bryce Hopkins has been the top player for Providence averaging 15.5 points while shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from behind the three point line. In this game I would expect Providence to push the pace but they also need to try to be more efficient with their scoring.
