Cincinnati had back-to-back rainouts that washed out Wednesday’s home game with the Cubs and that moved the opening game of this set from Thursday to Friday. The Reds dropped to 3-3 on the season and entered Saturday tied for third in the NL Central, 2.5 games behind the Brewers for the top spot after their second consecutive loss. On Friday afternoon, Cincinnati finished with six hits with no player recording more than one. Tyler Stephenson and Jose Barrero each drove in a run for the Reds in a losing effort. Hunter Greene didn’t factor in the decision as he threw 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts, throwing 93 pitches before departing. Derek Law (0-1) took the loss in relief as he allowed two runs on two hits with one walk and no strikeouts in one-third of an inning.

Graham Ashcraft takes the ball for the Reds as he makes his second start of the season in this contest. He comes in 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA, a 0.714 WHIP, one walk and six strikeouts to date on the year. Ashcraft earned the win in his season debut, which came last Sunday against the Pirates at home. He threw seven innings, allowing one run on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts in a game the Reds won by a 3-1 score. In his 21st career major league start, he makes his first career start against the Phillies in this one. Ashcraft, as a result, makes his first career start at Citizens Bank Park here as well.
