Chicago is off to an inconsistent start to the 2023 campaign, failing to record back-to-back wins heading into Tuesday’s contest. The White Sox split their four-game series at Houston to open the season before losing two out of three against San Francisco. They also lost two out of three at Pittsburgh last weekend, responding with a 4-3 win at Minnesota on Monday. Center fielder Luis Robert racked up 15 hits in his first 10 games, batting .333 with four home runs and 10 RBI. Third baseman Yoan Moncada added a pair of homers and five RBI, hitting .308.

The White Sox ranked fourth in the majors in team batting average (.282) heading into Tuesday’s game. They are facing a Minnesota pitching staff that is No. 2 in team ERA (2.63). Right-handed pitcher Lucas Giolito is going to start for Chicago on Wednesday afternoon. He allowed two earned runs across 5.0 innings at Houston in his first start before allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits in 4.0 innings at Pittsburgh last weekend. He struggled to a 4.90 ERA in 30 starts last season and does not appear to have turned a corner this year. Giolito had a sub-4.00 ERA in his previous two seasons, so he will try to return to that level.
